Two distinct transactions

A registrar transfer is not an administrator change

Transferring a .RU domain to Atak Domain changes exactly one thing: which registrar holds it. The trustee route needs a second transaction on top, a formal change of the party recorded as administrator. Two transactions, two sets of requirements, and an order that has to be confirmed against your current registrar and the domain’s present status before either one is started.

The practical start

Count the first year of the Atak Domain trustee service by the transfer route and it comes to $109.97: $39.99 for the registrar transfer, $39.99 for the administrator change, $29.99 for the trustee add-on. Take the transfer line out and you are at $69.98. Where the domain sits today decides which of those two numbers is yours.

Direct answers

Can I keep my current registrar?

Possibly. Put the question to that registrar directly: will it process an administrator change into the verified trustee account without the domain moving? Some cases need a transfer to Atak Domain first. Others do not. The two remain separate transactions either way, and neither should be started before eligibility, document requirements and domain status have been checked.

What each transaction actually does

Both get called a transfer in conversation. Only one of them is.

Transaction one

Registrar transfer

What it changes
Which accredited registrar holds the domain. That is the whole effect.
What it costs
$39.99
What it needs
The auth-code (the EPP code), the transfer lock off at the losing registrar, and a WHOIS email that still reaches you.
How long
Five to seven business days is typical for .RU.
What it does not do
It leaves the recorded administrator exactly as it was. It adds no time to the expiry date either. A .com transfer buys you a year; a .RU transfer does not.
Transaction two

Administrator change

What it changes
The party written into the registry as the domain’s administrator.
What it costs
$39.99, plus the $29.99 trustee add-on where the incoming administrator is the trustee.
What it needs
A formal application carrying whatever documents the processing registrar requires. Not a contact edit in a control panel. Document checklist.
How long
Set by the registrar processing the application. No transfer clock is running on it.
What it does not do
It moves the domain nowhere, and it renews nothing.

One order-of-operations note. Check that the WHOIS address still reaches a live mailbox before you request anything, because that is where the transfer correspondence goes, and on a domain somebody else set up years ago it is the first thing to have gone stale.

The first year, added up

Two routes, two totals. If the domain already sits at Atak Domain and a trustee change suits the case, there is no transfer to buy at all.

Trustee add-on$29.99

First year$69.98

Neither figure covers the domain’s own renewal, which is billed separately on its own date. And because the transfer adds nothing to the expiry, moving the domain in March does not push a June renewal anywhere.

If the domain is somewhere else

One question decides the route. Ask the registrar currently holding the name whether it can process an administrator change into the designated verified account, or whether the domain has to come to Atak Domain before that becomes possible. Requirements vary between registrars, and so does account compatibility. It is not a thing anyone can answer from outside that registrar’s own desk.

Portfolios: segment before you file

Sort the list first. Group the domains:

  • by registrar;
  • by the administrator on record, including its NIC-D identifier;
  • by expiry date;
  • by current status.

Where the registrar permits it, domains sitting under a single Nic.ru administrator can be listed on one application. Confirm that with the accredited registrar before you build a plan on top of the assumption.
