Can a UK company hold a .RU domain?
A UK Ltd has two things to check: whether it holds an accredited Russian branch, and whether its registrar accepts a company verification route for it. Without qualifying presence, the usual shape is an eligible trustee recorded as the administrator, with the UK company’s instructions written into a contract. Read that twice. It is not the same as the UK company remaining the administrator in the registry.

Can a US company with no Russian branch keep its existing .RU?
A US LLC or corporation can assess an administrator-change route where direct verification is unavailable. Pull the registrar record first, with the domain status and the expiry date. If a trustee becomes the administrator, then use, DNS instructions, renewal responsibility and the exit process all need written terms. Approval and uninterrupted renewal cannot be guaranteed in advance, and anyone promising either should be read closely.

If you have a qualifying Russian status or branch
Two situations open a direct door. A foreign individual holding qualifying Russian residence or work status may have an ESIA route in their own name. A foreign company with an accredited Russian branch may instead have an organisation-account route. Either way, confirm the registrar’s current process and the exact status or branch documents it wants to see before you attempt the registration. The word may is doing real work in both of those sentences.
If you have no qualifying Russian presence
Then the question to put to the registrar is whether it can register the name with an eligible, ESIA-verified administrator standing in through a trustee arrangement. The trustee becomes the recorded administrator. Use, DNS instructions, renewals and exit all belong in the service agreement rather than in the registry entry.
Putting a non-resident customer’s contact details on file does not substitute for the administrator’s eligibility. Two different tests, applied to two different parties.
New registration is different from an existing-domain change
For a name nobody holds yet, the order runs availability first, then which administrator route the registrar will accept. For a name you already hold, pull four fields: current registrar, recorded administrator, status, expiry. An administrator change on an existing domain may call for the Russian-language DOCX application ↗ together with supporting documents.
Here is the mistake worth naming. People send the change form in order to register a name that does not exist yet. That form moves an existing record; it cannot create one.
