Send these five, and the shape of the problem is usually clear from them alone.
- the domain name
- the registrar that holds it
- the administrator ID, if you have it
- the expiry date
- the renewal error, copied exactly as the registrar shows it
The last one decides the next action: payment, documentation or a formal administrator change. A paraphrase of the error is worth very little. The wording is the diagnosis.
Atak Domain operational service information: administrator-change and ESIA guide ↗ · updated .RU registration and renewal guide ↗. Case-specific steps have to be checked with the accredited registrar.
Before the expiry date
Start with the notice the registrar sent. It usually names the blocker without explaining it. Then confirm two records: who is written down as administrator, and whether any hold sits on the domain. Ask separately whether renewal is available on that account at all. Eligibility and identity are two different checks, and a registrar will not always volunteer which one failed.
Settle the identity question before the invoice — paying first can make the change harder rather than easier. And if a trustee turns out to be the route, work backwards from the expiry date instead of forwards from today. The form, the notarisation, the translation, then registrar processing: each of those has its own queue.
If the domain has expired
Ask the registrar for the exact status and the preferential renewal window before anyone quotes you a restoration price. Atak Domain’s .RU page describes a 30-day preferential renewal period. Read that as the shape of the window rather than a promise about your name: case status and verification requirements still control what can actually be done. A rescue promised before the status is known is a sales line, not a plan.
- Verification fails The registrar cannot complete the renewal because ESIA verification is missing.
- pendingRenewal The domain is flagged for suspension. The site may already be unreachable.
- Grace period ends The tolerance window closes and the domain is released.
- Redemption Recovery is still technically possible, at a much higher cost.
- Released Anyone can register it. Including a competitor.
Avoid false assurances
An administrator change may be impossible right now. A hold, a missing authority document, a disputed record or the registrar’s own timing will each stop the application before it starts. Neither a trustee nor an advance payment guarantees renewal. Anyone promising one is guessing on your behalf.
